Frans Hals Museum

Today I went to the Frans Hals museum, all by myself. Hubby had to be somewhere near and the kids said they had too much homework. To be honest if the kids could have come along, I would have chosen a different museum, as they are not too fond of museums with 17th century paintings.

It was yet again a beautifully sunny day. Again I cannot say enough how beautiful this Fall has been.

Beautiful blue skies today

Next to the museum was a quilt shop with the cutest mini quilt shop replica.
I can look at this for ages.

17th century "rijtjeshuizen"

The "wallpaper" (actually wallfabric) was gorgeous in a certain room

Sneaking in an SP

and another

A favorite: "from where I stand"

This is the garden and perhaps the main reason I went
See last picture

Looking outside from the inside

Again, those windows are beautiful

Just one dollhouse in the museum, a beautiful one

I thought this was a beautiful detail of a painting

A sweet grandpa taking round his grandkids

Just looking up

And this picture was taken a long long time ago.
I knew at the Frans Hals museum and I've been
wanting to go back to see this sculpture.
Glad I saw it today (see above).
Now I want to go back again with my own kids

Teylers Museum

Today I took the boys to the Teylers Museum in Haarlem. It's a gem of a museum. It was established in the 18th century and is the first and oldest museum in the Netherlands. If you are ever in Haarlem, it's a must I would say. Haarlem is quite a must as it is a beautiful town, but very low on tourists. I took so many nice pictures today, I even had a hard time narrowing them down to 16! We didn't have enough time to see everything, so we'll have to go back soon.

me and my boys

I wanted to do an SP as well, but the people wouldn't move, so I decided to photograph them instead

Looking at the sun. Spread out throughout the museum little pins are positioned to represent various smaller planets like Earth, Venus etc. Bigger planets are as big in relation to the sun.

Impersonation of a dinosaur

From where I stand, the floors are beautiful. Please feet take me back soon

Last month there was very sad new that Sieb Posthuma had passed away. He couldn't see the light anymore. The kinderboekenmuseum in the Hague already had an exhibition about him and this was prolonged till this Sunday. I went to see it yesterday. It was a good exhibition. Beautiful so see so many original drawings/paintings of his books, which I've been a great fan of, in real. It makes you look at the books he illustrated again differently. He will be greatly missed by many.

It's been a long time since I rode on the back of a bike. The purpose was to go to the Station to go to Utrecht a pretty town in the middle of the Netherlands. One of the good things in the Netherlands is that the bicycle is an important method of transportation, making the average Dutchman very green. I went with my SIL and our daughters. The latter two went shopping by themselves and my SIL had to work, so I could stroll around in my own pace. I enjoyed it a lot.

I loved the flower baskets in the town of Utrecht.

The Dom is one of the major, if not "the" major trademark of the town of Urecht. You can easily spot it while walking around the center of town.

It's always nice to walk into bookstores in other towns. I like this one, they had a good collection and they displayed it well.

Pretty dress in a shopwindow always draw my attention

So do small flowering cacti, even though I wouldn't want them for in the house.

We all met up an hour before it was time to go back home in de Bakkerswinkel which later turned out to be a chain. Nevertheless it had a very nice atmosphere.

Their downstairs is very pretty.

We decided to order three cakes and divide them into fours leaving everybody a small piece of each cake. The waitress and my SIL were very impressed by how I had cut the bigger cakes into small pretty triangles. It's almost worth writing an essay about "how to divide a cake"

Rain boots

I've seen these boots for some time now, but they will be taken away at some point as they always renew the artwork on this piece of field. So yesterday was a sunny day and I thought it would be nice to go down there wearing our boots. This is the formal picture. There wasn't enough sky above, so I added some to make it into a square.

formal "Singing in the Sun"

But of course I much more like the outtake because these just happen and become more fun to look at. My oldest son wanted to make sure the storm was coming from that direction. I know it is rare in the Netherlands, but there was no wind yesterday ;). And the little one was still upset about the debate he had about whether it was allowed to sit on a piece of art, hence his expression.

New Website

It's been exactly a year since we moved from Italy to the Netherlands. Somehow initially I couldn't get myself to revamp my Photography website and in the meantime I've pursued another dream of mine which is to be formally trained to become a teacher. Circumstances led that I started a teaching degree last February and so far I'm enjoying it immensely. It meant I haven't had much time to devote to the professional side of my photographic career, but as always I've been photographing a lot. It's in my blood to photograph. Now I'm having my Summer break and I feel so energised, I've been very motivated to re-do my website and I thought it was time for a new name. As Shin means new in Korean, those who know me know I need to change things around once in a while. I'm happy with the result.
